This is now better solved with “marketing contacts” and “non-marketing contacts”. The difference is that marketing emails (e.g. newsletters) are only cost money in sent to marketing contacts, and only these can be included in an ad target group for targeting/retargeting, for example.
You only pay for marketing contacts. The “marketing contact” status can be assigned at any time and revoked again at the cost money in end of the month. This is usually done automatically (Marketing Hub Professional). In principle, you only pay for what you actually use for marketing.
