Don’t waste time ranking for prestigious keywords that don’t convert

SEO is one of the basic tasks for all those who are looking for “free” traffic for their online projects. Obviously there are alternatives to Google visits , but I have already talked about them in the past.seo conversionPhoto rights by FotoliaMy failed attempt to rank “marketing” in the top 10For those who practice SEO, there is something magical about this. You start optimizing and “out of nowhere” your page goes up to the top 10 of Google.

Those who read this blog frequently

know that I am not an SEO nor do I practice  malaysia telegram data   it much on this blog . It is usually a surprise when I realize that there is a post that ranks well for a popular keyword. On these occasions I do “reactive SEO” to go up 2-3 more positions by putting internal links from new posts. I am not good at this nor do I try. When I do it I usually waste my time.telegram database users list

One of those “reactive SEO” attempts was to get into the top 10 with the keyword “marketing” when I discovered that I was in position number 11 without having done anything. These types of generic terms are more about prestige than anything because they don’t contribute much in terms    tablets, the market is revitalized   of conversion . Who searches for marketing on Google? More students or more entrepreneurs? With the exception of student entrepreneurs, the younger public doesn’t contribute much to me because their interest in the  qatar data  topics I share is not usually intrinsic (there are always exceptions of course). My experience is that they “use” me as a source of information (or interview) but then they forget about the blog.

Focus on combinations that are simpler and provide higher conversion

Typically, generic keywords are much more difficult to rank for, especially if there is so much competition as there is in this niche. Having the keyword in the domain helps, but it is not everything. If I wanted to rank for “marketing” I should start by appearing in other combinations such as “online marketing” or “digital marketing”. Since “Guerrilla Marketing” is part of the name of the blog, it is difficult to convince Google that the home page can also be relevant to its top 10 with “marketing”. I would probably have to create a page within the blog that would focus on this term and synonyms. Alex usually explains this much better than I do in his Quondos videos.

My basic recommendation is not to waste time positioning prestigious keywords that may not bring the expected conversion in the form of new readers (or clients). Focus on combinations because these are usually easier to push to the top of Google. For those who will now think “of course, since he didn’t get it, now he says it’s useless” I recommend taking a look at Dan Gilbert’s talk “The surprising science of happiness” . It won’t help you improve your SEO but it will help you understand human beings a little better…
